Possibility of a single parent allowance

If you are caring for a child on your own (without a partner) while also taking part in higher education, you may be eligible for extra financial aid from DUO. An important prerequisite for this is that you receive a child benefit for the child.

Nationwide schemes

If you are caring for a child while attending your degree programme, you can get extra financial aid: the single parent allowance. You are eligible for this allowance if you do not have a partner and are caring for a child who is less than 18 years of age. This may be your own child, but that is not required. A prerequisite for this is that you receive a child benefit for the child, or that the child is registered with the municipality as living at your address. For more information, visit the DUO website.

Ask your educational institution for help wherever possible and make sure to report any problems you encounter as soon as you can. In many cases, a study adviser or student counsellor can refer you to someone who is knowledgeable about the financial possibilities at your school; they may also be able to help you apply for such aid, when you expect to incur a study delay, for instance. That way, you can avoid being too late in submitting your request for these accommodations!

Have a look at the other facilities, accommodations or schemes that might be helpful for you, too.
