If you are caring for a child while attending your degree programme, you can get extra financial aid: the single parent allowance. You are eligible for this allowance if you do not have a partner and are caring for a child who is less than 18 years of age. This may be your own child, but that is not required. A prerequisite for this is that you receive a child benefit for the child, or that the child is registered with the municipality as living at your address. In many cases, a study adviser or student counsellor can refer you to someone who is knowledgeable about the financial possibilities at your school; they may also be able to help you apply for such aid, when you expect to incur a study delay, for instance.
