Possibilities for extra time to complete your studies
As a result of your disability or special need – you may need extra time to complete your studies. It is therefore vital to clearly communicate what you need in order to be successful in your degree programme (such as extra time) and to keep doing so throughout the entire programme. In many cases, it is possible to obtain financial support when you have a study delay.
Accommodation schemes
Nationwide schemes
When your disability causes a delay in your study progress or forces you to quit the degree programme entirely, the Education Executive Agency (DUO) offers financial schemes that may be able to help you. More information on the financial possibilities can be found under Information on financial resources.
Schemes at your educational institution
If you find yourself falling behind in your study progress, you should talk to your study counsellor or study adviser about it as soon as possible. Together, you can discuss the reasons why you are not earning credits and what will happen next.
When you encounter a study delay as a result of your circumstances – for instance as a result of obstacles in connection with your disability – you can apply to your educational institution for financial aid. This financial support can come from the Profiling Fund at your research university or university of applied sciences.
Have a look at the other facilities, accommodations or schemes that might be helpful for you, too.
Tips for extra time to complete your studies
If you encounter obstacles in your education, tell your educational institution
If you run into obstacles as a result of your special need, you can look at how this will affect rules such as the BSA or the attendance requirement together.
Provide information about your special need before you begin your degree programme
That way, you and the study advisers can come up with agreements to help you be as successful as possible in your studies.
Keep your supervisor up to date on your disability or special need
That way, you can stay in touch and keep discussing how to help you study as effectively as possible. It will also give your degree programme the chance to offer – or keep offering – the help you need.
Can study credits be expired?
Study credits cannot simply be expired. Only if there is severely outdated acquired knowledge/skills is this possible.
