Problems with attending classes and taking tests or exams
If you run into problems with attending classes or when taking tests or exams, this may be due to a number of causes. These could include a disability or chronic illness or other special needs. Because of these issues, you might find yourself with too little time to attend classes or study for your test or exam. It is also possible that you have difficulty keeping up with and understanding the lessons or taking tests or exams (including practical tests) without certain tools or aids. In that case, it can be extremely challenging for you when your lecturer does not take steps to accommodate your disability. All these factors may affect your academic performance.

Support and facilities in connection with attending class and taking
A variety of adjustments and/or facilities are available and may be helpful to you during your degree programme at a research university or university of applied sciences. While there are national schemes, your educational institution will offer its own forms of additional support, too. As a student with a special need, you might have a need for the following:
- Guidance and advice. There are a number of people at your educational institution who can help you if you encounter problems with testing or attending class. It is a good idea to talk to the student counsellor if you run into obstacles during your degree programme. The student counsellor can help you decide which facilities you need.
- Educational and testing aids. When you have a disability or a special need, you might rely on tools or aids to help you participate in lessons or take tests. This might involve extra time when taking exams, using text-to-speech or dictation software, using a laptop or access to a low-stimulus space. A variety of tools and aids are available to you.
