Possibilities for reimbursement for modified transportation

If you use a wheelchair or have a disability, you may need modified transportation to get to school, your internship or work. For more information, see the section on ‘Nationwide schemes’.

Accommodation schemes

Nationwide schemes

Do you need a modified bicycle, adjustments to your car, a special disabled vehicle or a mobility scooter to get to your study activities, internship or work? If so, the Social Security Agency might cover the costs.

  • For more information, visit the Dutch government's website for information on long-term care and support. On the ‘Practical help’ page, you will find information on whom to turn to for help with your situation.
  • Request reimbursement from the Social Security Agency. Download the form for requesting reimbursement for modified transportation.
  • If you use the means of transportation for both your study activities and personal/home use, you can request reimbursement from the Social Support (Wmo) office of the municipality where you live.

Have a look at the other facilities, accommodations or schemes that might be helpful for you, too.

Tips for requesting reimbursement for modified transportation

A word of caution about purchasing your own modified means of transportation

Antwoord

You should avoid rushing out to buy your own modified means of transportation. It is also a good idea to wait to arrange modifications to an existing vehicle until you have received word from the Social Security Agency or the Social Support (Wmo) office of your municipality. If you arrange the accommodations yourself, you will not be reimbursed for them.
