Problems with finding an internship or job

When you encounter problems with finding an internship or job, this may have a number of different causes. Perhaps you are unable to find a suitable internship. Employers might not hire you because they think your disability will cause problems or because you are not yet sure about your capacity for work in connection with an internship or job. All these factors may affect your academic performance.

Support in connection with an internship or job

A range of facilities, accommodations and schemes are available at your educational institution and nationally, which may be very helpful to you and might make it easier to achieve success in your degree programme. When you are looking for an internship or job, you may have a need for the following:

  • Guidance and advice. There are a number of people at school who could help you with this. Get in touch with these people if you encounter obstacles during your degree programme. Research universities and universities of applied sciences sometimes offer training courses on how to find a job. Educational institutions often have career counsellors on staff to help students in this area. Check the website of your educational institution to see whether there is a career counsellor with whom you can schedule an appointment.
  • Help finding and doing an internship. When you enrol in higher professional education (HBO), completing an internship is often a required component of your degree programme. University education (WO) programmes may also require you to do an internship. When you have a disability or special need, you may sometimes benefit from a bit of extra assistance in making the transition from your degree programme to an internship and/or job.
  • Help finding a job. Sometimes it can be difficult for you to find a job. Read tips on how you can do the best to be prepared.

Various organisations can offer you assistance in finding an internship or job when you have a disability.
